About the book:

Winner of the World Open in 2003, the New York Open in 1994, and the
European Junior Championship in 1983, among many other championship
titles, Estonian-born Grandmaster Jaan Ehlvest shares his unique
insights into what takes to become one of the top chess players in the
world. Written in an accessible, easy-to-read manner, "The Story of a
Chess Player" should be of interest to both newcomers to the game as
well as seasoned chess players. It covers both personal stories with
various characters in chess history as well as detailed annotations to
some of Grandmaster Ehlvest's most memorable and outstanding games.

About the author:

In the first series of the World Cup tournaments, Ehlvest came fourth
after World Champions Anatoly Karpov and Garry Kasparov, and
grandmaster Valery Salov. In 1989, he won the Reggio Emilia
supertournament ahead of grandmasters Vassily Ivanchuk and Karpov. In
the last World Championship in Delhi he finished on the top 16th.
Ehlvest's highest international rating is 2660, and he has been one of
the top 5 players in the world. In 2003, he won the World Open
Championship.

Ehlvest has been once elected as zonal President of FIDE, the World
Chess Federation. He is currently an active participant in FIDE's
"Chess in Schools" and various training committees. He is currently

No, but the book is available on Amazon.com for $29.95 -- generally a
fairly hefty price for 228 pages, but with a limited ket for such
books, the price is not surprising.

I believe the website address can be found on page 1,833 of
www.samsloan.com.

All proceeds of the book will be donated to charities connected with
locating 38 of Ishmael Sloan's wives who are still missing after the tragedy
in Asia. No, not the tsunami, the battle of Midway.
