I have to play a 1/4 final match at my club against a caro kann player.
Since i've never encountered these lines, i'm playing for 2 years now, what
opening would you recommend to me? I like to play the Ruy Lopez and the
Sicilian Defense and the Nimzo-Indian agains d4. What line would suit me?
Maybe the Bayonet Attack? I feel bad playing defensive, cramped positions. By
the way , my opponent is rated 560 points higher, but at least i wanna go
down battling.

If you're comfortable in the IQP pawn positions which sometimes occur in
the Nimzo-Indian, you could try the Panov-Botvinik attack (3.ed cd
4.c4).

Good luck.

Play whatever you're comfortable with: play the opening you play best
and understand the most, or an opening that will lead to the kind of
game you're in the mood for.

Decisions about which opening you play are rarely going to win you the
game. On the other hand, trying out a new opening in an important
game is an easy way to lose it. Your opponent's a lot stronger than
you so he's going to out-think you when you're in unfamiliar
positions.

I am not a great player, but im pretty good so take my advice lightly. I
play the caro-kann and i suggest avoid the main line 3.Nc3 dxe4. I
suggest going for the exchange variation (3.dxe5). It is fairly passive
but is usually an equal middlegame.
