Subject: Food preparation for chess tournaments?
Hi,

What kind of diet should people eat before a chess tournament and also
during the event to get their maximum level of chess peformance? Are
we allowed to eat during the event and if so kinds of "brain" food
should we eat to be clear-headed and think strong chess moves.

One time I saw my opponent eat a big italian subine. While he was
eating it, it started dripping onto his shirt and on the table. That
was annoying.

I'd recommend eating a full meal about 45 minutes prior to the first round
of the day, and a quick meal in between rounds, with some access to snacks
and sodas if need be.

I generally bring gatorade, granola bars, cereal bars, or protein
bars. The keys are that you want protein and carbs, and you want stuff
that's easily carried and stored in your chess bag.

I'd recommend avoiding soda and candy bars - the sugar and caffeine
will give you a quick boost of energy, but that's followed by a crash
an hour or two later.

Life is too short to take myself too seriously. I make typos and
spelling errors as I try to answer the phone and get some work done
while answering 25 simultaneous games online( most of which I loose).
I am also working on legislation for Tennessee concerning "net
billing" for passive renewable energy. What makes me feel best though
is when I feel like I have made a friend through a group based not
upon bullying or being "right or wrong" but based upon an
understanding of differences of opinion and the worth of their
proponent. While we may not agree on everything, I feel that those
differences dont stand between us and I am pleased for that. :-)

I believe Rob recommends a purger before each tournament.
