Im searching this "Bible" since a few month. It seems that only the
Paperback Version is available. Please help.

Thanks

Thanks for the suggestion, but in my case, this isn't worth the effort.
My copy of MCO-14 has a section in the front that fell out, but at
least those pages are still stuck to each other, and the rest of the
book is holding up ok. Just to use it to look up "book" lines of
particular openings every once in a while, it's in decent enough shape
to serve my purposes. I just need to use the "pull out section" to look
up King's Gambit lines or the Table of Contents. :)

A couple of years ago bookcloseouts.com had a hundred for sale. They
went quickly.

Yes, the Batsford edition (which is supposed to be identical to the
American edition) can probably be found as "Batsford Chess Openings" at
bookfinder.com.

It seems probable that various textbooks published in the States are
constructed so as to fall apart following a certain amount of usage.
In cases where the voluminous text material is supposed to make the
book a permanent reference, this is flagrantly dishonest. (See, for
instance the student reviews of Varberg's Calculus at amazon.com.) A
part of the publisher's reason may be to inhibit photocopying.

I don't think I've ever seen a hardcover version. Are you sure they
ever published one? If it was just when the book first came out, there
likely aren't any more new copies left, as this book is several years
old already. It's a pity, since my softcover version started to fall
apart almost as soon as I got it.

Even don't think there were one. At least I always saw the
paperback only.

In both cases you may use professional help. Ask at your
local library (of if you have one even better as they surely
have the demand for that: University Library, central or
whatever department). Working here at the local library of
the physics department I know that we have several companies
which will make you a hardcover out of your softcover
edition or weared out version for a very resoonable price.
We do this very often as books are quite expensive. Also we
get all our Journals bound together to books at the end of
each year for achiving purpose.

To give an estimate: I once got the "Review of Particle
Physics" in that way as a hardcover which is comparable in
size to MCO14 and is originally published as a "Special
Issue" of some journal. This was about 15,- Euros for the
"Library Archive Quality" (ie. it will outlive me if the
paper doesn't dissolve; we have some journals here bound in
that quality which are > 150 years). You may get it at a bit
lower quality for even less. So for a book you want to use
heavily this is IMHO a good option.

BTW: the british edition (Batsfords) seems to be bound
resonably well. It's some 5,- Eur difference, but well,
maybe it's worth it. I had some very bad experiences with
several even expensive american books (Sakurai's book from
Addison Weseley is some of the worst I ever saw, though one
might expect from A-W that they know how to make a book...)
that's why avoid US if possible and I prefered the british
edition. Maybe I did right?
