Hi,

I am thinking about ditching Sicilian as i need to swim deep into theory for
that. I wnat something with less theory. I am considering Petroff.

I do not have an official rating as i have not yet played a FIDE rated game,
but have won some local tournaments. I have played around 180 games with CM
10K and my rating in it is around 2170 - which probably would translate to
1700 or so in real life.

I like open games, with the potential of a king attack for black. Tactial
potential (but not too unsound)is important. I do tactical training with CT
Art and Renko's so i want to capitalize on that.

Of course, i understand an opening cant gurantee a fast paced game and a
King side attack, but i guess there would be openings dedicated to this
idea.

What do u guys think of Petroff? Any other suggestions. I like Ruy with 3.
Nf6, but
i dont get into Ruy with my opponents - they play mostly italian.

Again what abt d4. currently i play QGA.

thanks for your time.
Walker

Hello,

I'd also recommend the Pirc Modern played 1. e4 g6 here there are good
chances of attacking the King. About 18 years ago I switched from Sicilian
to Pirc/Modern, wit hthe idea of looking for something else later - there
has never been a need! My performance with Black soon got to about 80% -
which I'm happy with. Once you know the basics there are good chances of
playing creatively and surprising your oponent - what more could one want?

If you like open games with good chances for black you should stick to
the Sicilian vs 1. e4. The next best choice might be the Pirc which
also requires a lot of preparation. The Caro-Kann is also worth having
in your kit bag.
