Subject: Poll: Best Ever Chess Games (BCM 1989)
I read somewhere that in 1989, the BCM (The British Chess Magazine) took a
poll of their readers, asking
what the best chess games ever played were. Are the results of this poll
available on the web somewhere? (I've searched but only been able to find
their top five.)

I realize that there are books with such collections available, but these
are generally selected by individuals (the one by Soltis, and the one by
Burgess/Nunn/Emms come to mind). Have similar polls been conducted among
chess players/fans, and are the results available online?

Hi Gregory,

Check out this link:

http://www.geocities.com/lifemasteraj/best_games.html

under the surveys section, you will find the BCM stuff.

While you are on the site, check out the best games section, especially game
10 between Ivanchuk and Yusupov, Belgium 1991 (Candidates match) it is a
fantastic game, with some extensive analysis.

All the best

Simon

Thanks Simon, that's a great page. Actually this is exactly the page where
I had read about the poll, and where I had found the top five! I was
actually curious about #6 and onwards in the BCM survey, as well as #11 and
onwards in some of the other surveys mentioned there.
