Subject: Starting new CLOSED chess group!
Hallo!
Maybe I'be got this wrong but I don't think my needs as a serious chess
player are met by the existing group. Does anybody else feel this way?
The general tone of the group seems to be a group fgor beginners or
people who no doubt enjoy chess tremendously but are not experienced in
the chess world.
Maybe I've got this all wrong; if I have please just humour my monment
of weaskness if you can.

My idea is to form a new serious chess group. It could be here. But if
it is an open group probably it will get taken over by the spammers &
wandering bummers so we could make it a closed group possibly somewhere
else e.g., YAB-YUMOO if we can't do that here.

OK ?

Hallo Ray!
The last time I looked apart from myself, you and one other person are
interested. So we almost have a critical mass.
To join people apply through Yahoogroups.
The point is that we don't get either
(a) spammers in the group or
(b) people who are more interested in e.g. virtual sex. Of course, one
can never rule out this possibility 100%.
And it would be best IMHO for people to reveal their identities as I
don't enjoy talking with anonymous people.

I nevver said I didn't like you. Bit when I am want to focus on chess,
then just that ... chess exclusively.
The phrase I was actually thinking of was the German one
"vagabondierendes Kapital" which I find gorgeous.,Easy to translate as
"vagabonding capital".

OK. Could you recommend some good ones please? You imply that you know
of some.
I never made any claims to originalities. I have found that groups that
apppear at first sight to be open actually are already so set in their
ways that they are very difficult to become involved with. It's a part
of the Gruppendynamik.
Having our own groups allows us to discuss without that feeling that we
are upstaging sb, or writing too much.
So there are advantages in having a new group.

In other fields I have already started a number of new ones some of
which have been in existence for almost a decade with still over 100
members. (At Yahoo).

Ther reply above "if u dont like is, then f""" off!" IS A GOOD EXAMPLE
OF SEVERAL OF THE POINTS I HAVE MADE. I PREFER TO KEEP SEX ENTIRELY
SEPARATE FROM CHESS
but some people love that projection, and so are irritated at the
slighest distancing (see above!).

There are a number of good Yahoo Groups as someone has already said. I am a
member of separate database, chess improvement, chess problems groups.

I guess you check Yahoo groups first for the availability of serious chess
groups instead of creating the umpteenth incarnation of what others did
already before you.
