Who are the masters to study if one is interested in studying playing
with the isolated d pawn.
I am assuming that Tarrasch might be a place to start, given that he
championed the Tarrasch Defense to the Queen's Gambit Declined. There
was also that famous quote of his.
Who are the other's? Or was the good doctor alone in his opinions?

Only some adds about this topic.
As I said I sent here the games I have used to teach IQP.
In that set of games there are games of Botvinnik, Capablanca, Karpov,
Kasparov, Krmanik, ... and many other stronger players (as I wrote, all
players up to certain level have played many IQP)
In the first set of games there is a selection of games where white
space advantage is followed by the concrete d5 break in the CORRECT
moment. All games are work material and many hours can be devoted to
study them.
I like very much this example (Korchnoi-Georghiu) ... If you have a look
at the position after 17th black move you will find very difficult to
find the extraodinary 18th white move: white tactically breaks the
blockade and achieves the d5 break in good conditions.
There are other games where the d5 breack need to be prepared tactically
and it shows how dificult is to find the best moves in that positions
but also how hard work can help us to solve similar positions.

I think Ron advice (Geof Strayer agree with him) is very usegul:
Baburin
book is a good reference and the players He wrote about are good
examples. Richard Stanz wrote about Botvinnik who has played very
interesting IQP games too
There are many other books with interesting articles about IQP (Grau,
Alburt, Pachman, Euwe,... )
I think all strong palyers have instructutive IQP games. IQP is part of
chess strategy and It can not be avoided.
I will try to expose some ideas about them and I sent later ilustrative
examples to work (in those examples there are atrong GM games and also
some examples from mine and my friends):
IQP strong
- White has better development and opens the game with the advance d5
in
the CORRECT moment
- White achieves space advantage and uses it to create an attack if
black blocks the d5 advance.
- White attacks in que queen wing using c5 square.
IQP weak
- Black attacks IQP and wins it.
- Blacks blocks IQP and after some exchanges He obtains a better ending
pressing the IQP.

I'm FIDE master and my FIDE rating has been around 2360-2400 in the last
years. My local rating has been around 2450 in last years. I have some
internet chess servers ratings but I think you are not asking for them.
I supposed you known all that from our interchange of opinions in the
lasts months.
I know you were a under 2000 player claiming to have 2260 strengh. I
know you only play 1 minute chess and computer chess to improve
"faster". I know you do not show all your "wide knowledge" in order not
to inform Kasparov and Topalov about your secret weapons.
I have teached chess to people 2000-2250 FIDE. The games I sent in that
thread were some of the study material I have used (without noter).
Your words do not show any understanding of IQP positions known by 2000
players. Your other words in other posts do not show any knowledge chess
related showing only negative advice.

I don't see the big deal with the isolani: it's just an isolated pawn in the
center. One has to eventually promote it, protect it, or trade it.
Playing 3...c5 against the Trash in the French is the best way to get
practice with it, as is playing the Panov-Botvinnik attack against the
Caro-Kann.

I agree with Ron that "Winning Pawn Structures" is a very good book and
definitely THE book on isolated d-pawn positions.

Protect it, push it, and trade it. That's about all you need to know about
the isolani.
Generally, a GM will tolerate an isolani when it is a consequence of a
larger battle that they need to win.

computer to study.
The following players played the Tarrasch:
Gligoric, Kasparov, Spassky, Nunn, Chandler, and Illescas-Cordoba.
If you're looking for a larger study of IQP positions in general, you
should find a copy of Baburin's "Winning Pawn Structures." Despite the
name this is really a book about playing with, and against, and IQP.
Very good book, very educational. It covers different recurrent themes
by chapter, looking at both cases where the pawn is a strength, and
others where it is a weakness.

Those who can self-teach have thrown away all their books by now.

Computers do the same thing by kicking our asses in 30 moves when we play
well, and 15 when we don't.
