Subject: Installing multiple engines under single ChessBase GUI
|
I have Fritz 9, Hiarcs 8 and Shredder 6 (I got them legally, thanks), and I would like to install them all under a single GUI. However, when I install, they install the GUI and everything each time. All I want to do is to install one copy of the GUI and then all of the engines under that one GUI. Anyone know how to do this, or am I forced to install the GUI every time?

But just install the whole shebang, choose the best GUI to keep (let's say Fritz 9) and copy the engines folder to a safe place. (mostly c:\program files \chessbase\engines) Now uninstall Hiarcs 8 and Shredder 6. After that copy the engine folder contents back and load the other two from your Fritz 9 GUI. Remember to keep the CD's at hand for a first use check. -- CeeBee ***The Place Where The Faith And The Flavour Meet***

I had hoped this wasn't the case. All right, I'll just move engines and uninstall the extra GUIs. Thanks for the help.

If so you should be able to choose the engine you want to use from the Fritz Engine - Change Main Engine menu -- Regards Charley

Using Windows Explorer open the Program Files - ChessBase - Engines folder. That's the default installation location, although you might have chosen a different location when you installed the software. Put whatever engines you want to use into that folder. If they're located elsewhere, move or copy them into the Engines folder. If you have to install each of the programs separately to get a copy of the engines, that's OK, just save the engines somewhere and copy them into the Engines folder later. Whatever you put into this Engines folder should appear when you access it via the GUI. Typically you will be asked to insert the original CD for each engine when you first access it, but not thereafter - unless you make significant changes to your op system such as rename your computer.
