Site no longer appears up. I am going to be disappointed if this site
is gone for good. Zillions was and is THE engine for chess variants
and other abstract strategy games.

I just finally got around to buying a copy the other day. I've always
admired this kind of game, and I think playing such games is good for
me. Considering how poorly I do at them, they must be exercising a
little-used part of my brain.

Thank goodness for the Pushover setting, without which Zillions would
just be a form of self-torture. (I also appreciate the ability to turn
off music and sound effects.)

dawg, NONE. The files you download are like word files. The program
downloads them and then interprets them.

Given Word's long and inglorious history of macro viruses, perhaps
that's not the best analogy you could have chosen. :-)

I haven't seen any notice that Zillions is no longer in development
(although I haven't seen any indication that it is). How do you know
this? Just curious.

Unfortunately, though, it's no longer in development. There will not
be a Zillions 3, nor any more patches for Zillions 2. Too bad, because
there are quite a lot of new features it could use, and it can always
use better AI.

I know you can play Fischer Random. Also there is Bughouse/Crazyhouse, but
I've heard the client Thief might be best for that, not sure cause i dont
play it. http://www.babaschess.net/features.asp
a.. Support for crazyhouse
a.. Support for bughouse (partner buttons, suggest in partner board,
wait-for-piece premoves)
a.. Support for atomic chess (explosion sound and animation)
a.. Support for all the other chess variants available on the server

Yep, they are back, which is a good thing. Zillions holds an essential
place in the boardgame/abstract strategy/chess variant community.

If you like Chess try the FICS server, the client BabasChess is the best way
to connect.

Must have been temporary. I just clicked it and it worked.
