Subject: Mate in Two db?
Greetings,

If this is a faq please forgive me and point me in the right direction.
I am dreaming of an open source electronic something akin to Polgar's
doorstop "Chess." What I want is to be able to open up xboard (or
whatever) and have it present me with a mate-in-two problem, then
another, then another. Am I dreaming? Or am I failing to grok some
standard feature of some existing app?

fwiw, I'm running a debian-stable machine. All clues greatly
appreciated.

I believe you are dreaming.

I have long wished for a .pgn file of mates-in-two and mates-in-three to
practice. I can build my own file, but it's time consuming. What I'd
really like is something with a few thousand problems.

Seems like a program could go through a database of games and pull out all
the mate-in-x positions and save them to a file. Maybe not.

I made some time ago a java prog that scans big databases and extracts
the mate in n :
1212 matein1.epd
15623 matein2.epd
7862 matein3.epd
3417 matein4_and_more.epd
you can see the number of games on the left side.

If someone is interested in putting those files on the web for public
access, just reply to this post with your email.
