Subject: Search Malfunction in ChessBase?

Another thread asked about the seldom-played opening line

1. e4 e6
2. d4 d5
3. Nc3 Nf6
4. Bg5 Be7
5. Bxf6 Bxf6
6. e5 Bg5
7. h4

I plugged this line to CB Reader's position search, and had it search
through the CB MegaDatabase 2005. To my surprise, it returned hundreds
of games. However, looking at a few ob of them, it turned out they
actually involved the Alekhine-Chatard Attack, 1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3
Nf6 4.Bg5 Be7 5.e5 Nfd7 6.h4 Bxg5 etc.
The difference is that in the search position, there is no knight on
d7, but in the games CB Reader listed, there is. So the search function
was malfunctioning, returning games that actually did not match the
position entered. Has anyone else encountered this flaw?

Jud, to what e-mail address did you send your complaint? Do they have
a tech support department that answers queries? Perhaps there is a
patch for my problems.
The worst one is that after a search, if I try to play through any of
the games on the search list, the program usually abends or freezes.
Only about 10-20% of the time will it actually allow me to access games
on the list. This usually does not occur if I pick out a game from the
full database list.

Phil, you really need to get back on your medication. I have "taken
over the thread"?? Um, Phil, I started this thread. I posed its basic
question. You are off-topic in trying to divert its subject away from
ChessBase. If you want to discuss your game, go back to your "TN in the
Winawer" thread, even though your game is not a Winawer.

Now, would anyone who actually knows something about ChessBase care
to answer?

No, Phil. It was not a matter of transposition, nor even of
"transpoitio."

Our Phil slowly begins to catch on.

But then Phil immediately loses the thread again. I was not asking
for an evaluation of the position, but about the accuracy of ChessBase
Reader's search function.

Thank you for a complete irrelevancy. Now, would anyone who actually
knows something about ChessBase care to answer?

HEY!! Kingston diversion of the thread is to insist on taking it over with
his own context, and to talk of anything else is to lose [his] thread.

Its not about 'it would be the Klingon Opening if only the pieces were
somewhere else'...

Its about the actual game I wrote here which I just got done playing. I
asked if anyone knews its name, apparently not.

Kingston is nuts@! He has taken over the thread and accuses me of being
off-topic in writing about the ACTUAL game score I posted, instead of HIS
idea of what's not in the Chessbase library.

This honest-broker reviews chess books - though we can understand better
know why he skips the scores, since that is too hard and beyond
expectations!

By transpoitio, then.

Which is slightly different.

Yes. that aids black in his late c5 push, this is an excellerated system
which seeks to immediately regain the pawn, or put the bishop out of any
manoevability for a long time.

I wonder if 'anyone' else ever took the pawn on h4? That is the significant
position.
