Subject: Shredder 9 UCI announce moves?
|
I have Shredder 9 UCI for PC. In the options menu "Announce Moves" is greyed out. I have found a review at: http://home.aol.com/rjpawlak/reviews/Shredder9.0.html This has the following paragraph: Move announcement sounds can be added if you have a previous version of Shredder that has a directory of WAV format sound files (just copy to the corresponding subdirectory in Shredder 9). I will email Shredder.com after the holiday, but does anyone know of a quick soloution? Thanks for your help. Richard

Copy it as a subdirectory under Shredder 9 UCI. Then it works fine. I don't know which prior versions of Shredder have this offhand, but it worked for me. I don't know of a faster solution.

I would guess that any subdir from allmost any ChessBase program might do. So some Fritz soundfiles or whatever. I asked already for this feature in the Linux verison but there seems to be a problem with licensing or at least it is not clear wether the wav-files are copyrighted. An alternative is www.playwitharena.com which offers sound files for move announcements. Though one would have to fiddle out how to name them properly. As the linux version of shredder does not know about move announcments at all I did not fiddle out and there is no script to convert them for shredder. (If the linux version would know how to announce moves though, well, there would be...) -- Kind regards, Alexander Wagner

Thanks for all your help Alex - I downloaded the English announcements from playwitharena.com I am now using these sound files with my DGT board. They are much clearer than the originals. The main reason I wanted the sound files for Shredder UCI was that some of the DGT board announcements were difficult to understand. Now the problem is solved - excellent - thanks again. Richard
