Subject: Shredder UCI Opening Book in Fritz?

Does anybody know if there is a way to get the shredder opening book that
comes with the UCI engine available from shredderchess.com into Fritz 8 or 9
to use a the engines opening book?

Also, of less importance, will the Shredder UCI engine pickup the
*shredderbases* if placed in the Fritz tablebase path and the engine is used
within Fritz?

One last question that is sort of off topic. Why are opening books so
different between engines? Are they just paired down to openings that the
engine typically excels at (i.e. closed ruy lopez for a more positional
engine)?

You can export it to pgn and build a Fritz book out of that.
This should be the way to go as the Shredder engine does not
know how to read the book it relies on the UCI-Interface to
get it served (as it is intended by UCI to be). Most likely
Fritz will not read you Shredder-Book directly.

I don't know for sure but I'd guess even there the engine
relies on the UCI-Interface to get the bases severed
correctly. But there is no Shredder 10 @linux yet.

Depends on the material that enters it and the style the
engine "likes". Normally they are tuned to give best results
for this engine. But this problem is actually why Stefan
invetned UCI serving the book, so you can use _your_ book
with _all_ your engines. This point is really hell in
xboard.

In the Shredder 10 GUI you load the Shredder10.btk that you downloaded.
Extras - > Openingbook -> Load openingbook
The you convert it:
Extras - > Openingbook -> Export openingbook

Now you have a Shredder book, that engine will use when it's under other
GUI's provided you have checked parameter, and not loaded any other book
for it (in Fritz).
You can't go through the moves, but you create another for this way in
the Shredder GUI if that's you'd like.

Yes, Shredder uses the Shredderbases in other GUI's as well, but if
wan't them to be another place than the deafult, you have to redirect
the path in parameter options of the engine.

The style of engine is the most important reason why the books are
different, but also some books contains moves with a sound
suprise-effect, novelties, etc.
