Subject: Where is the strongest chess club? Online or Manhattan Club?
I've heard about the Manhattan Club in NYC as a strong chess club, an
actual club not online, but today where is the strongest chess club?
Is it online? The Fritz/Chessbase site, the ICC, FICS, or GetClub.com
with Sanny?

I kind of like the free guest account that comes with Fritz myself.
True, you don't get to establish a handle and play rated games, but
even a friendly match can be tough.

Strengthwise, I play at the Class A level.

Oh, now what could be better than GitClub. Just ask Sanny.

I imagine most people will say ICC due to sheer numbers.

Thanks for that opinion Ed. I was actually thinking of the Marshall
Club when I wrote "Manhattan Club" (I didn't even know there was the
latter). Also I once passed by a chess club in downtown San Fran
called the "Mechanics Club" I believe.

If you have any further opinion about the online 'clubs', good or bad,
please do share.

The Manhattan Chess Club has been gone since 2002, strangled to death
by the "Chess In The Schools" organization.

The Marshall Chess Club (23 West 10th Street in Manhattan) is still
going strong, and is probably the strongest actual chess club in the
United States.

I have no opinion about online "chess clubs", except that I think the
term is a misnomer.
