This game was played recently on a web correspondence server I play
on. White is one of the strongest players on the site; Black is not.
The final position is a thing of great beauty.

Weird final position with 9 knights or whatever. I suppose the hardest
bit was avoiding the scored of stalemates that were lurking all over
the place.
I always feel a bit sorry for the loser in games like these. He is
made to look a bit of a Washington General.

If he was playing just for stalemate he deserved it. If he is such a
beginner that he wasn't aware one could resign then ... I suppose he
also deserved it.

I don't, much. He could reasonably have resigned on move 14 (out of
123), when he dropped a piece. Or on move 17 when he dropped another
one. Or on move 18, when he dropped the exchange. Or on move 21 when
he fell for a tactical sequence that cost him a knight. Or on move 24
when that sequence was completed. Or on move 38, when he lost his
last pawn and the position became KRNB+8P vs K.
