Fischer Random Chess isn't particularly attractive, is it? On the below link I have sumized my own variants which use only standard equipment. http://hem.passagen.se/melki9/8x8.htm Mats

To take a shot at anything Bobby Fischer now, in light of his death, is in very poor taste. This is particularly in poor taste in light of it also being an attempt of self-promotion on your part. - Rich

To identify Fischer Random with Bobby Fischer is to depreciate the person Fischer immensely. He was not a game variant but a human being. Moreover, I have not promoted myself. I gain nothing from this. I have never received any appreciation for my work. Not even a kind word, and not a single penny, either. It is not self-promotion to post to such a group as this. It is self-denigration. Mats

My random chess would be simple and more exciting .. All pawns would be the same and id take all the back pieces off and id have a plastic eggs in a turner with all the names of the pieces written on paper ..YOUR opponent would get to pull the eggs out one at a time and open them and you start on the A file and what ever piece was picked it would go on the square...Lets say you pick a bishop and King and then another Bishop , since A-I and C-I are the same color you would put the bishop on the next opposite color so it would go to D-I . then the next piece you pull out would go on C-I and then the next piece you pull out go's to E-I ..... There would be NO castling for either side BUT all the rest of the rules of chess apply .. I would have a tournament with the top 20 players in the world and id call the tournament THE ULTIMATE CHESS BRAIN .....And id have a crystal brain for a trophy .... If your king was in the middle on D or E square , tough , and if your opponents was on H-8 or A-8 so much the better for him , but remember YOU picked where his pieces are set up ......Even though it was random.... what do you think about this kind of game ?

I didn't really understand your description but what difference does it make if I draw lots for the position of my pieces or my opponent does? The whole point of a random process is that it doesn't matter who performs it -- the results are still random. > what do you think about this kind of game ? An asymmetrical starting position means that in many cases, one player starts with an overwhelming advantage. I doubt many strong players would be interested in playing such positions and they do little to determine the relative strengths of the players. I just think it is more exciting if the two players who are picking out each others pieces for every game ...Anand vs Kramnik pulling out each others picecs and the next game Polger vs Anand and now Anand is black and they pull each others pieces out ..Fischer did have a good idea and it would have been interesting if he played his last tounament like that... In fact i kinda feel like playing a game like that . Just for the heck of it i wrote the names of the pieces on paper and pulled them out of a hat and here is the set up.. White.. A-I - King.. B-I - Knight C-I - Rook D-I - Knight E-I - Rook F-I- Bishop G-I -Bishop H-I - Queen and for Black ... A-8- Rook B-8- Bishop C-8- Knight D-8- Knight E-8- Bishop F-8- Rook G-8- King H-8- Queen.. as white i think my first move would be G-2 to G-3 opening my queen and bishop and the queen put pressure on his B-7 pawn .... But his D-8 knight protects the B-7 pawn.. As black my first move would be G-7 to G-6 pawn so the H-8 queen on the B-2 pawn aiming at the white King... I pulled the pieces out at random and just think if you were white and i was black , i think it would be a interesting game ..And if you were in a tournament you would pick your opponents pieces out at random in every game you play as black and white and so would the other players . This would be a battle of the strongest chess brains ....There would be no castling either but all the other rules would be the same .. set this up on your chess board and tell us your first one or two moves .
