Has the USCF sought any legal counsel on this topic?
Yes, it has. In ust and September, 2006, USCF President Bill Goichberg wrote five letters to attorney Michael Matsler of the Law firm of Rider, Weiner & Frankel, P.C. of Newburgh NY asking him how to stop Sam Sloan from taking office on the USCF Executive Board after Sloan had been elected by the members, or how to expel him from the board after he had taken office. The answer to these five letters was, in sum, that there was no legal way to stop Sam Sloan from taking office since he had been elected by the membership. Michael Matsler did not do any other legal work for the USCF during that time period. Thus, it is apparent that the attorney's bill for ust 2006 of $2,790 and for September 2006 of $1998, for a grand total of $4788 was for responding to these repeated inquiries by Bill Goichberg asking how to get rid of Sam Sloan.
How much did USCF pay to defend Sam Sloan lawsuits?
The answer, which is in the financial statements if you search, is about $8,000 in attorney's fees. A better question to ask is how much did the USCF lose by winning that suit. By winning that suit (which was not really a suit because in New York it is called an Article 78 Proceeding) is that the USCF has lost more than $100,000 THUS FAR by winning that suit, because had my Special Proceeding been successful, it would have stopped the move to Crossville, and thus far the USCF has spent more than $100,000 in additional operating expenses due to increased salaries and operating expenses in Crossville than it would have spent had we remained in New Windsor, New York. This does not even count the cost of building the now nearly worthless building in Crossville. Sam Sloan
