Subject: ICC wireless connectivity problems on ICC
|
Hi, Don't quite know what to do, so I thought I would start by asking here. I have been an ICC user for years and I have been connecting to ICC via my home wireless connection for over two years with no real issues to speak of. However I bought a new laptop with an Intel/Proset wireless card, and I am having all kinds of issues staying connected. On its troubleshooting FAQ, ICC mentions that wireless connections are a common source of disconnection issues and pretty much leaves it at that. So be it. I am glad to trouble shoot this issue myself, but I have no idea where to start or what to look for. General internet connectivity via web, email, FTP, downloads etc seems fine on this box. I have the latest versions of Jin and Blitzin, problem appears on both. Tried without the firewall (McAfee Security Suite),no joy. Realize these are telnet apps and require a continuous connection and thus your browser might work fine and you could still have issues, etc., etc. But problem is, where to look, how to test? What am I looking for that would point me to a solution? I see no discernible wireless connectivity issues to troubleshoot, but then again, in evaluating a continuous connection via wireless, not sure what I am lookng for. I am wordsworth on ICC. Thanks in advance for any help you can get. Regards, Ned Walthall

I was not allowing my box to be pinged by other servers. Turned this feature off and low and behold, no disconnects. Regards, Ned

To the contrary, I have often mentioned the frequent disconnects and the fact that they are very annoying. But I can't say whether they are due to GetClub, or to my wireless connection. Note that in some longer games, I have been disconnected a dozen or more times, but was able to reconnect without too much trouble since my ISP did not normally cut me off from the internet (and this suggests a problem with GetClub, I think). Right now I am playing the Advance level at GetClub and disconnects have not been much of a problem. It might be a good idea to try playing at GetClub to see if the problem is the same as with ICC. One idea to keep your internet connection "active" would be to open another tab/browser and go to a site which has constantly updating information or ads. -- help bot
