Beatriz Marinello just called me. She said, "I feel wonderful. I feel great." She said that the kidney transplant operation has been a success and she will be going home tomorrow. Her new kidney is working already and she says that she feels the best she has felt in years, much better than she felt before the operation. She warns that she cannot shake hands or kiss anybody. If she sees anybody coughing, she must get as far away as possible. Nevertheless, she hopes to be able to attend the USCF Delegate's meeting on August 4-5, 2007 in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Her kidney transplant operation was performed on Tuesday July 17, 2007 in Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. She says that her kidney transplant donor is doing well as well. Beatriz Marinello is a member of the Executive Board of the United States Chess Federation. Sam Sloan

It seems like a tacky question, but it really isn't. The expense is grossly improper under federal law. A 501c3 could not do this. The tax status of the USCF is a good weapon with the American National Olympic committee. I think that the ANOC would only aaccept a 501c3 to the the USA (less the US Virgin Islands and Pureto Rico, which are full FIDE members) and force annexation of the above chess countries. Because of the fear of picking up germs and infecting yourself. Shaking hands, touching public telephones, elevator buttons, shopping cart handles and atm machines are ALL HUGE GERM AREAS. If you get a transplant they warn to avoid all these things and if you can't to wash your hands immediately. Even now after my kidney has failed I am super cautious to keep my hands washed and I keep antibacterial gel in my car and at my desk at work. If all went well, I was added to the waiting list yesterday. Adam, not too far from Newburgh, NY, former USCF HQ

If all went well, I was added to the waiting list yesterday. I never wore gloves. You can buy a small bottle of Purell Waterless Hand Sanitizer for about $2 and keep it in your pocket if you're worried. One thing I do, though, is open the Men's Room door with a paper towel when I'm exiting. Everyone puts their hands on it and who knows how many people haven't washed their hands after they used the restroom. Larry

There is a certain time period where you HAVE to be cautious. Each transplant center is different but usually it's the first year where you have the biggest chance of infection and rejection because you are on so many immunosuppressants during that time period. Even though I had no problems what so ever I had to fight with my dor to allow me to go to college after 9 months he was just too worried I would pick something up. I had to reassure him that I would be cautious to stay away from anyone who was sick and to get to the dor at the first sign of anything wrong. "Alan" < > Good for here, but why isn't she able to shake hands ??>> Because she has been fisting her girlfriend, who also donated the kidney. She wants to wash up first.
