I predict this kid will be a master within a year, and a GM by 13.

The A player is a 9-year old. The highest rated 9-year old in the
country. He just went 3.5/6 in the Open section of the National Open,
losing to 2 masters, drawing a 2300, and beating two masters
(including Sunil Weeramantry) and an A, achieving a performance rating
above 2200. He is an A player because his rating can't keep up with
his chess growth due to the fact that he can only play in a few
tournaments a year with strong players. If he had a coach appropriate
to his talent and strong opposition available where he lived, who
knows how much higher it would already be.

Just what you have against the World Youth Championships is beyond
me. Plenty of GMs have gotten their start in the under-10 or under-12
sections, Judit Polgar for one twenty years ago. The U.S. has
selected Luke to be the under-10 U.S. representative this year.

I would have had less quarrel with "local legends," but that was just
one aspect of a website designed - so its seems - just to suck money
away from people to sponsor some A player in a bogus "World
Championship", that bothered me.

What's wrong with local legends? I mean, Dutch Henry Leuch was no
Jesse James or Wild Bill Hickock, but he was legendary where I grew
up.
