Subject: How much advantage we get for White pieces?
|
When I play White GetClub Chess shows a loss of 1 point and when I play black GetClub shows itself an advantage of 1 point. Is having white pieces equal to having an advantage of Pawn? In most of the games I find GetClub gives 1 pawn advantage when having white and similarly 1 pawn loss when it is having black pieces. I have not taught it any thing like that but when it calculate the position it gives +1.0 point to white? What do expert players think about it. Does getting white pieces worth getting an extra pawn? When playing against Rybka, GetClub always shows +1.0 point for the player who takes white. Bye Sanny Play Chess at: http://www.GetClub.com/Chess.html

No. I believe the advantage equates to about 40 rating points, but in any case, it is worth significantly less than a pawn. > In most of the games I find GetClub gives 1 pawn advantage when having > white and similarly 1 pawn loss when it is having black pieces. Perhaps the programmers are showing the position-score from White's perspective, regardless of who has what color or of who is on move. > I have not taught it any thing like that but when it calculate the > position it gives +1.0 point to white? > > What do expert players think about it. Does getting white pieces worth > getting an extra pawn? Weak players may confuse you by posting outmoded or simply poor information, but as for experts, they seem to perform (nevermind what they may /say/) roughly 40 rating points better with White than with Black, on average. Having this tidbit handy, we can safely ignore what is said, argued, claimed, propounded or even bloviated, in favor of real-world results over hundreds of thousands of games, averaged. However, it is quite possible that at the low level of play at GetClub, the advantage of having the move is larger than in the world of competitive chess. -- help bot

No, it looked perfecly fine here. It's probably your Newsreader's fault. It was only ISO-8859-1. mfg, simon .... l

Let's try them this way: of the c- or f-pawn =3D 1 and 1/2 of the b- or g-pawn =3D 1 and 1/4 of the Knight =3D 4 and 1/2 of the QB =3D 4 and 1/2

The numbers given are obviously only approximate. But even though the position is complicated, they can still be of service in helping to determine whether one may venture upon sacrificing a piece for two pawns, and in elucidating similar thorny problems."

Being on the move, in general, is worth about 1/3 Pawn.
