Subject: Knight drawing against rook and pawn
I read on the internet that Lasker once drew against Capablanca with
only a knight versus a rook and a pawn. If anyone has this game, please
post it. I am curious to see what position would lead to a draw in this
situation.

This type of position has been known since the old Handbuch days:

W: Kh2 Rh3 Pd3

B: Kd2 Nd4

1. Kg2 Ke2 2. Rg3 Nf5 draw....

Also note in the Lasker-Lasker game, a rook pawn wins, whereas the knight pawn
only draws.....

Interesting. An unusual position for sure. Thanks for posting it.

Hi tin,

Don't believe everything you read on the internet.
The famous draw by Emanuel Lasker with N v R+P was not against Capablanca
but against Edward Lasker in New York 1924 the absolute pinacle of Lasker's
(numerous) Tournament successes

The position featured in many an endgame manual is after 93. Ke4

8/8/8/8/1K2k3/1p4r1/1N6/8 w - - 0 94

94.Na4 Kd4 95.Nb2 Rf3 96.Na4 Re3 97.Nb2 Ke4 98.Na4 Kf3 99.Ka3 Ke4 [99...Ke2
100.Kb2 With the idea of Nc5] 100.Kb4! Kd4 101.Nb2 Rh3 102.Na4 Kd3 103.Kxb3
Kd4+ 1/2-1/2

Here's the whole game...(quite good actually)
