Sam Sloan draws an 8-year-old Girl
At my club, which is the shall Chess Club, I played in the New York
February Open on Sunday.
My first round opponent was an 8-year-old Chinese girl. As I could
only draw her, they gave me a 9-year-old boy. I beat him and so then
they gave me a 12-year-old girl. I beat her too so they gave me a 65-
year-old man, but then I lost.
Here are the games.
Against the 8-year-old girl I got a promising position in the opening.
Then, I saw a sacrifice. I was almost certain that the sacrifice would
not work, but if it did work it would go down as a brilliancy and
might even make it into Polgar's next problem book.
I have this obsessive-compulsive to make sacrifices and so I just did
it.
Guess what? It did not work. Anyway, it boiled down to a draw. I have
to give her credit for defending well in a position where many other
players would have blundered and lost.
My third round opponent I later found out represented the USA in the
World Youth Championships in Batumi, Georgia. There was also a feature
article about her in the New York Times on October 12, 2006.

article, but when you click on his own info, he charges $40 an hour
for his services.... and he expects people to bid competitively on
this, and guarantee originality?
So if you could 3,000 of those articles in a year, as a regular thing,
you could just about live at the poverty level? What kind of chump
would do this?
