I've been using Pocket Grandmaster 3.01 for some time, but have noticed
a few bugs.

1) It will occasionally move twice. This especially seems to happen if
you set up a position rather than play a game from scratch.

2) The other day it captured a pawn with a pawn in the opening/middle
game, then gave itself another queen, which captured something else. So
not only did I have to fight a program that made too moves before I'd
had chance to move, but it turned one into a queen too. I should have
played on and seen how the queen played. Each time this happens, I've
saved the PGN file, but the PGN file is invalid, so neither Pocket
Grandmaster or any other chess program will read the file.

I've contacted the authors about this, who have said others had reported
this, but they had been unable to trace it to date. They believe the
problem is in the interface, not the engine - it can happen with several
different engines.

Anyone else had these sorts of problems? I'm getting a bit fed up with it.

I also encountered some bugs in Pocket Grand Master interface, but not
those ones : the way the UI works should be more intuitive (load/ save
games etc.)
PGM certainly needs some polishing and debugging but it is one of the
best if not the best chess program on Pocket PC.

I regularly get the moving twice routine. Giving itself a second queen
in the opening is not something I've seen more than once.

Agreed. I'd like to see the ECO header when you have multiple games in a
PGN file.

I agree Pocket Grandmaster is probably the best of them all.

Pocket Fritz is pretty good too, but neither are very good for
manipulating/annotating pgn files. CE board is good for that - it is
free too.

There are lots of chess programs on Pocket PC. Its a shame you can't
take the best features of each and put them together to make on really
good program. (wishful thinking).

More than anything I'd like to see an interface to ICC on Pocket GM or
Pocket Fritz. Thinkerboard has it, but its not a very nice program to use.
