Interesting.

I was not aware of the 'mono' project

http://www.mono-project.com/Main_Page

which someone aims to use to port CPT. I'm rather suspicious of
Microsoft, so are always a bit aware of using such an idea, although
since you have written the original version in .NET, porting using
'mono' would appear to be the easiest way.

Peronally I'd rather see GTK+ used, which is cross platform and does not
rely on anything M$ do. But I'm not going to try a port - it clearly is
a non-trivual task.

The 'scid' chess database

http://scid.sourceforge.net/

uses Tcl/Tck and works quite well on both Windows and UNIX.

Let's hope if a port does go ahead that it will work on real UNIX
systems (not just Linux). The mono project would appear to support

* Linux
* Mac OS X
* Sun Solaris
* BSD - OpenBSD, FreeBSD, NetBSD
* Microsoft Windows

so with care CPT could work on all those platforms. But I tend to find
people only check on Linux quite a bit, and use non-standard extensions.
Often they make use of gcc specific compiler flags. It is not unusual to
find a program that reconises your compiler is not gcc, but still adds
gcc specific flags which completely screws things up.

If anyone wants access to a Solaris box for testing, I can make one
available by ssh.

It a port and/or CPT were made a sourceforge project then there is the
option of using their 'compile farm' to test the software under lots of
different systems.
