Subject: Fritz 9 vs Rybka in 5 Min blitz game question ..
My friends Fritz 9 went one and sixteen in the 5 minute blitz games ..
So then he played them at 25 min game and it was a draw and so he
played them n 90 minute game and Fritz won...

Why does Rybka dominate at 5 min games but draw or lose longer
thinking games ?

I am sure rybka can win those longer games but he only played those two
games one time...

Ill ask him to play each of those longer time controlled games two
times each ..That way they both can be white and black..That would give
a better idea on which is stronger at 25 and 90 min games......

Because, depth becomes more important than rules. This has nothing to
do with Rybka or Fritz per se. But this is true when comparing engines
where one is largely chess knowledge based, and the other is largely
number of nodes based. (Rules are better than being blind. Knowing the
truth by seeing it, is better than just having a rule.)

At different times lengths you will get different results.

Rybka should regain strength at longer times when Rybka gets better
depth. Interestingly enough, this is probably why Rybka does so much
better on multi-cpu machines. It is easier for Rybka to get to the next
ply compared to other machines. Which gives it a much better overall
strength improvement.
