I'm thinking of purchasing a palm handheld, mostly for chess related stuff.

1. Any recommendations as to best bang for the buck?
2. Any experience out there with Hiarcs for Palm? The website boasts a 2600
ELO on upper end Palm devices.

Thanks,

Angelo

Hi Angelo,

Very difficult to answer because some engines are only available on
Pocket PC, others only on Palm.

Perhaps Pocket PC has more free engines available and also most
recents.

See http://perso.wanadoo.fr/lefouduroi/microfin5.htm and also follow
the link in the page to http://www.zanchetta.net/CEBoard/

Patrick

I have Hiarcs for the Palm as well as Chesstiger and Chessgenius. I like
Hiarcs the best, although all are good.

Maybe you'll want to check out OpenChess as well, especially
before investing money. It's really good, and for free.
Beta1 features Fruit2.1 as engine (on ARM processors).

Don't be afraid of beta1. It's beta in the Linux/Unix sense,
not in M$'s ideas of GA ;) Never did any harm here, just
works.

Merci beaucoup, Henri et Le Fou!

Now for another question: Which platform is better for chess? Windows
CE/Mobile or Palm? I've decided against the Palm because it appears to be a
dead end platform.

Comments?
