I'm thinking of purchasing a palm handheld, mostly for chess related stuff. 1. Any recommendations as to best bang for the buck? 2. Any experience out there with Hiarcs for Palm? The website boasts a 2600 ELO on upper end Palm devices. Thanks, Angelo

Hi Angelo, Very difficult to answer because some engines are only available on Pocket PC, others only on Palm. Perhaps Pocket PC has more free engines available and also most recents. See http://perso.wanadoo.fr/lefouduroi/microfin5.htm and also follow the link in the page to http://www.zanchetta.net/CEBoard/ Regards, Patrick

Maybe you'll want to check out OpenChess as well, especially before investing money. It's really good, and for free. Beta1 features Fruit2.1 as engine (on ARM processors). http://palmopenchess.sourceforge.net/ Don't be afraid of beta1. It's beta in the Linux/Unix sense, not in M$'s ideas of GA ;) Never did any harm here, just works. -- Kind regards, Alexander Wagner

I've decided against the Palm because it appears to be a dead end platform. Comments?
