They can't be very big blocks if they can fit literally inside a VHS
video cassette or -- worse -- a DVD.

I never heard of this Kimball fellow. He doesn't identify himself as a
master, IM, GM, or even as an Internet GM :) Yet he obviously spent a lot of
time on his keting materials. What gives here?
