Subject: Very cheap Fritz 9 on amazon and others, is it for real?
I just wondered if the Fritz 9 advertised on amazon for 17 is the real PC
version. The box illustration looks quite different from the box shown on
the chess.co.uk site, i.e. blue colour instead of largely red tints. Same
'blue version' on some other sites. Half price, anyone confirm it's the real
thing?
Cheers, Mike

Mike,

It is definitely the real fritz 9 engine. The diference is that it onl
contains about 1 hour of training material, as opposed to about 4 hour
of training material on the chessbase.com DD version. If you mainl
wamt it for it'd playing/analysis rather than for all the other stuf
then it is agood buy.

Many thanks for the replies; I ended up getting the 'real thing' after all.
I was only being a little tight minded because I've already got Fritz 5,6,7.
Looks a good improvement, though I feel a little miffed the 3 hour tutorial
is just a bunch of extracts from other products, i.e. advertising. The 1
hour beginners' tutorial looks excellent for the kids though...
Cheers, Mike

There are two versions: the ChessBase and Viva Media version. IIRC only the
tutorial videos are (almost all) missing from the latter, and ChessBase is
supposed not to give tech support on that version. The engine and interface
is the same.

Many thanks for that speedy info. Sounds like it might be a good buy; I'll
check out what the videos are. Cheers, Mike

Ah, the 'reduced' version seems to be missing the 1 million games! That's
not good.
