Subject: Where is the new Chess Life Online?
The selling point on the Goichberg "New Plan" was that regular USCF
members would no longer get a printed Chess Life magazine in the mail,
but would instead get a Chess Life ezine online that would be just as
good.

The USCF started selling these new no magazine memberships on December
1. Nearly one month has passed during which these new members should
have been receiving the new online version of Chess Life, and no such
publication has appeared on the USCF website of www.uschess.org .

Where is it? I would like to know.

What I find instead are a bunch of articles in blog format that
anybody can read regardless of whether they are a USCF member or not.
No password or user name is required to read these articles and they
are not presented in magazine format which should be a PDF file.

So, in return for paying $29, the new USCF members are getting to read
a website for free that that they could also read for free without
being a member.

In addition, there is no Chess Life for Kids at all. I have searched
and searched and no such publication appears on the USCF website
anywhere.

And yet USCF President Bill Goichberg brags that his new plan has been
a "great success" thus far and is going "as planned" because, since it
has started, the USCF is "saving money" by not having to send a
printed paper Chess Life magazine to its members.

What is going on here? Can USCF President Bill Goichberg provide an
explanation for this?

[quote="hmb"]I'm just trying to point out the reality. I'll bet that
Time and Newsweek do not make complete PDFs of every issue available.
USCF's web site already presents the content. Perhaps the decision to
provide a PDF version was not thought out fully, or perhaps these
issues are really non-issues.

Gee! How can you imagine that this can possibly be true?

You mean an explanation of why you can't find the link on the left
side of the screen? The evidence would seem to suggest that it's
because you're stupid.

For $29 you get the right to play in Bill Goichberg sponsored
tournaments and get an official USCF rating. The fact that you can do
this online for free (sans the "official" USCF rating) is not
material. After all, there's a certain comeradery that comes with
playing chess "live" with others in a physical forum, especially for
kids.

True, the lure of having a present USCF membership is not for me, and
on occasion I would buy their magazine when I saw it in a bookstore,
but that's just me, and probably the majority of chess players. But
that still doesn't make Goichberg's plan illogical.
