Subject: chessmaster 9000 - avoid using the CD
I have chessmaster 9000 installed on my system. to avoid always having
to put the discs in after I installed CM I copied the discs to the
install directory. this worked fine until I got a message that I can
only run it x number of times until I have to use the disc again.
Okay, so this is rather feable copy protection, but it is annoying to
have to pull the disc out everytime I would like start a game.
Is there anyway around this?

thanks

john

donno about cm9k but I run CM10k and I found a nocd crack at
www.astalavista.com

It really annoys me to buy a product and then have to use the CD every
time I want to run
the program.

I've never managed to run it on my "normal" PC. My "normal" PC is in
fact a Celeron based PCI card that sits inside a Sun workstation. The
card has an Intel CPU.

The card uses the Sun's CD drive, display, keyboard and mouse. This has
worked with every application I have ever used (including of course
installing Windows in the first place) and any other application like M$
Office etc. But I could not use Chessmaster xxxx (forget which version),
as it obviously reads the CD in a way that is not compatible with my
machine.

I believe there are workarounds for the issues you raised - try a pc
newsgroup. I believe one can create a sort of image of the CD and use that.

For every copy protection scheme, there are normally 2 which circumvent it!

I'm amazed sometimes how rudemtary they are. I know of one expensive
program (around $3000) for which a hack has existed for years. The
software still uses the same protection scheme. I can only conclude they
don't mind one copying it.
