Subject: engines' playing style

I think it would be interesting to see what everyone thinks about:
1) Which engine do you think understands tactical matters the best?
2) And which handles strategy better?
3) Which has the most tactical style? (=chooses tactical moves)
4) The most strategic style? (will go for a long term space advantage
or better structure for example)
5) The engine with the most chess knowledge?
6) The most defensive style? (an engine that chooses caro-kann or even
pirc\modern over sicilian maybe?)
7) The one that can solid-bore you to death!
8) The most aggressive style? (Maybe chess tiger in suicidal mode?)
9) The most human like style? (=make people believe they are playing
another human)(Does anyone remember prodeo(ex-rebel), and maybe doctor
and gothmog?)
10) The best against humans? (Since rybka is for sure the best against
computers)
11) Which engine is the most customisable in a way that alters its
playing style and not just evaluation? (chessmaster maybe?)
12) Which engine without opening book will play better against another
computer?
13) Which engine without opening book will play better against a
human?
14) Your favourite engine?

....How was the games ?
I like HIRCS , that is the one id get if i get a real computer..

I did try the following of the recent programs: Fritz, Hiarcs,
Schredder, Fruit, Crafty, Toga, Rebel, Kasparov, .... (more on my chess
page).
I do NOT like Fritz/Schredder, because it is way off my own playing
style. They seek tactical variations, and I am more of a
positional/active player. I do know a lot of other players that do use
Fritz for analysing their games.
Hiarcs already plays the human way, and is configurable to some
different styles. It plays positionally very correct, so I like it.
(In my view, but as he beats me, my comment is not worth much....)
Some chess programs can be configured to lower their rating so they
ressemble more like chess players. These configurations also allow you
to mimic other styles as well.
I would advice against playing any program that is more than 2800 ELO
because no human can beat it. They can be helpful for analysis though.

PS: Last and not least, you can try my program that scores about 1100
ELO and can be very fun to beat!

I have played my Ivan computer ( I800 ELO ) vs fritz 9 and Ivan lost 3
times , two white one black and in the end game of one game Ivan was
protecting a lowly pawn with his rook when the King was in trouble .. I
kept thinking move the rook to try and help the King ..By the time it
moved the rook to help it was too late..
Ivan has a weakness when you castle on the queen side and lets say
his bishop is attacking the A-pawn he does not seem to see the B-pawn so
maybe not the first move or second move but that A=pawn seems so
tempting to Ivan and he takes the A-pawn some times then you move the
B-pawn up one and trap his bishop .....C-pawn takes bishop if he takes
the B-pawn or you can move the King over ...
The thing is i am still not good enough to beat Ivan even knowing
these flaws..
I have only won one game at the highest level and lost 400 + games ..I
only play the strongest level when i play..
By the way the box say's I800 ELO but the Fritz guy thinks Ivan is I700
ELO range....
