You can download Rebel Dec 30 for free

http://www.rebel.nl/decdown.htm

http://www.download.com/3000-2119-1555880.html?tag=st.dl.10001_103_1.lst.titledetail

You can run it on DOXbox 0.65 CVS (2006. 05. 15)
if you use Windows XP.

You can download Rebel12 for free here.

http://members.home.nl/matador/chess810.htm

It does not run on Windows xp
even with DOXbox, QEMU, and VDMS.

I forgot to how to run DOS programs on Bochs.

Anyway, I can run a newer Rebel titled 'Pre Deo' with
SCID and others.

It works for me now.
I cannot guess what was wrong yesterday.

I seems that I changed backslashes to slashes '/' and it suddenly
works.

It seems that you use Windows
then why do you use Unix style \ in directories?

I will test another method using RebelUci.exe again next week.

ProDeo works well with free downloadable Chess Assistant 7 nicely.
What is the problem with Scid at all?

This one does not work for me, either.

I guess that I have a fundamantal problem.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
http://home20.inet.tele.dk/larsp/skak/polyglot.html

I'll show it with ProDeo, which I have downloaded from this location,
and extracted to the folder e:\skak\prodeo on my harddrive. You choose
wherever you like on your own harddrive.

http://members.home.nl/matador/prodeo.htm

After the download open the archive with WINZIP and double click SETUP
-----------------------------------------
I think that the above two explanations are not the same.
The second one ask me to double click SETUP.

When I double click SETUP in Windows explore, I get some complicated
messages searching for chessbase and Lokasoft.

What is the role of SETUP here?

The role of Setup is to automatically set up Pro Deo with a Chessbase
or a Lokasoft product. Since Scid is not made by either of these
companies, you do not need Setup to configure Scid to work with Pro
Deo.

You need to unzip Prodeo.zip somewhere on your hard disk, and not just
open, but extract it. Once that's done, then you will have a folder
called ProDeo, which contains prodeo.exe and all the necessary support
files. Within the ProDeo folder should be a set folders named books,
Eoc, log and personal. The personal folder is the folder that
contains rebel.eng, which you asked about in your other post. For Pro
Deo, the eng files are personality files.

Once that is done, then you can set up Scid to work with Pro Deo. At
the top of the page
http://home20.inet.tele.dk/larsp/skak/polyglot.html, it says:

"What is an UCI engine? UCI is a protocol for communication between
the actual chessplaying program, and the nice graphical interface
you're looking at, in this case Scid. Scid only supports one of these
protocols, the winboard protocol."

prodeo.exe is a winboard engine, so you don't need to worry about
using PolyGlot and RebelUCI. That's just two unnecessary and
confusing steps, to translate from winboard to UCI then *back* to
winboard. Since Scid only supports winboard, it's easiest to set up
Scid with the winboard version of Pro Deo, prodeo.exe

If you extract your zip file to a permanent place on your hard disk,
then follow the steps I outlined in my other post, then you should be
able to get SCID working with Pro Deo.

I found it easier to set up ProDeo as a WinBoard engine in Scid. Then
you don't need to fiddle with PolyGlot settings. I use the following
parameters in Scid:

Name: Pro Deo 1.1
Command: C:/Games/Chess/Winboard/prodeo11/ProDeo/prodeo.exe
Parameters: w6 rebel.eng
Directory: C:/Games/Chess/Winboard/prodeo11/ProDeo/

Of course, you have to replace the
C:/Games/Chess/Winboard/prodeo11/ProDeo/ with whatever directory your
prodeo.exe is in.

Here is the contents of my ProDeo.ini.
Adjust the paths to your needs:

[PolyGlot]

EngineName = Pro Deo 1.1
EngineDir = E:/Schach/Programme/Arena/Engines/ProDeo
EngineCommand = E:/Schach/Programme/Arena/Engines/ProDeo/rebeluci.exe

Log = false
LogFile = none.log

[Engine]

Hash = 64

AntiGM = 1
Playingstyle = 2
Strength = 2
Personality = Rebel
Ponder =false
Logfile = false
OwnBook = true

The fields in the dialog-box of scid are filled as follows:

Name: Pro Deo
Command: E:/Schach/Programme/polyglot/polyglot.exe
Parameters: ProDeo.ini
Directory: E:/Schach/Programme/polyglot

That's it. It works at least when out of book. Sometimes you have to go back and forwards in the movelist to let the engine start calculating.

HTH,
Peter
