If you idiots keep responding to the various trolls who appear on this
newsgroup, rec.games.chess.computer will suffer the same fate as
rec.games.chess.politics. That is, oblivion.

If you enjoy posting to this unmoderated public newsgroup then kindly,
ingelligently IGNORE the various Cletis, Ray Gordon, and Sam Sloan
characters (real and imaginary). (My apologies to the real Sam Sloan -- it's
become impossible, man).

However, if you want to kill this group go ahead and express your righteous
indignation whenever they use a bad word or racial epithet. That is
precisely what keeps these morons coming back.

True enough, i have 'unsubscribed' to*.politics

As someone who has responded to the usenet troll I guess
Im guilty. But sometimes certain people just get under my skin :)
Guess I should just set up a twit filter...

I do really enjoy the computer related chatter though :)))

Killfiling any post here that's cross-posted to rgc.politics cuts out
an awful lot of the crap. If your newsreader doesn't support
killfiles, it's not worthy of the name `newsreader'.

That's like throwing the baby out with the bath water. There have recently
been several posts cross-posted to the other chess groups, that were worth
reading.

I object to jerks, not *only* because their posts appear in rgcp, but
because they're jerks.

Yes, it's a shame. Any attempt to get rid of bathwater will also
result in some loss of babies and it's for each person to decide how
much bathwater and how many lost babies they're prepared to put up
with. Personally, I dislike bathwater so much that I take showers and
am prepared to put up with quite a lot of babies going down the
plughole, as long as they don't block it. :-)

Yes. I've ended up reading most of those in rgc.misc, where I don't
killfile on crossposts to rgc.politics. I think the best thing to do
is to encourage people not to crosspost excessively. This is
especially the case with rgc.computer and rgc.analysis: I can think of
a few subjects that are on-topic in both rgc.computer and rgc.politics
(for example, discussions of whether computers should be allowed to
participate in tournaments between humans) but is there anything at
all that's on-topic in both rgc.analysis and rgc.politics?

Amen.

At one time or other everyone has responded to these creatures. It's easy to
confuse the fake Sam Sloan, for example, for the real one. I'm talking about
engaging obvious jerks in lengthy conversations here.

Yeah, this group is way more pleasant than .politics.
