Is it worth waiting for Chessbase10, or are there no signs of developing in
the air and is it better to get CB9 right now?

Yves, I can't answer your question, but before buying Chessbase
consider reading the thread, "Chessbase thinks they are better than
us????" dated 30-Sep-2006.

SCID is a free and stable alternative developed by chess afficionados.
It does have a learning curve of a couple hours before you get rolling.

Chess Assistant by Convekta is another option.

Note that here, `stable' means both `it doesn't crash' and `there's
been no development done for a couple of years.' :-) But IIRC, the
developer's back online, now.
