As one wag has written, "Goichberg believes in One Man One Vote. He
sees himself as the one man, and he has the only vote that matters."

Dear Candidate Haring,

For example, within the past week, I was not allowed to post an
article stating that certain statements made by the president were
"untrue". The moderators said that by writing that certain statements
made by the president were "untrue", I am implying that he is a
"liar", which is not allowed.

Sam Sloan
Try "not correct" instead of "untrue."
Take a look at this thread and all the threads around it on the USCF
Issues Forum and see all the attacks on me.

Yet, when our fearless leader attacks me, I am not allowed to respond.
You suggest that instead of saying that his remarks are "untrue", they
might be allowed to pass if only I change the words from "untrue" to
"not correct".

Now, we have posters on the USCF Issues Forum saying that because I
did not respond to his remarks, that my remarks were "thoroughly
refuted".

However, my remarks were not "thoroughly refuted". My remarks were
correct, his were misleading. However, I was not allowed to respond
because it would violate the rules of this forum that he got passed
and were designed to protect him.

Thank you for the suggestion anyway.
As I'm generally only able to play in tournaments
that are scheduled many months in advance, I play almost exclusively
in Continental Chess tournaments and thus have had the chance to
observe him two or three times in different states at different
tournaments. I certainly don't know him well, as our discussions have
been brief and only involved the play at the tournaments he was
directing. From my observations, I've found him irrascible, but
generally decent and reasonable (the latter word being synonymous with
"rational"). Moreover, I can read his posts with care (both in terms
of their content and in comparison to those of others). I find his
posts and written comments to be thoughtful and on point. I don't
always agree with him, but I agree with no one here all of the time.

Based on the above, and because the comment passed on from the "wag"
is without support, it seems little more than a gratuitous insult not
worth repeating. I don't know what you were thinking.
Unfortunately, you have only seen the public Bill Goichberg, the Bill
Goichberg most of us see.

I sat for one year on the board with Bill Goichberg and I was able to
observe many false statements being made by Mr. Goichberg.

For example, the USCF bylaws require that the transcripts of all board
meetings be posted on the USCF website.

Since Bill Goichberg has been USCF President for the last four years,
not one transcript has been posted.

In addition, the tape recording of board meetings is supposed to be
posted. Only a few of them have been posted.

Were the transcripts and tapes to be posted, as required by the by-
laws, I would be able to show you many, many untrue statements that
Mr. Goichberg has made.

As a fan of the Discworld series, I object to you saying that Terry
Pratchett is not a wag!

He's used it in several of his Discworld novels. I brought it to Sam's
attention. I've often used it about W.P.E. Bush (or sometimes Cheney).

I heard it as something like "Kasparov supports democracy as long as
the votes go his way."

Reminds me of the clever quip allegedly about Kasparov's understanding
of democracy: "Everyone votes for me."
