how accurate are the ELO estimator tests you see out there? i took
one recently and scored about 200 pts higher than i expected. so i
figure the tests aren't that accurate or i'm actually gettnig better.
i suspect the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

Play a few games at GetClub Chess and get ratings.

Play Chess at: http://www.GetClub.com/Chess.html

If you can beat Beginner Level than you are a great Player. It takes
10-20 sec/move.
If you can beat Higher Levels then you are a tournament player. Your
games are recorded for analysis.

Any Elo-based rating system needs a norm to calculate points from. Maybe
those who had already taken the test were more worse (or less better)
than you on average than the population you currently have an Elo rating
in.

Or of course, you are getting better.
