Eva Veronica, wife of FIDE Chess Master Asa Hoffmann, died yesterday, December 3, 2007. She was 70 years old and that was her birthday. Eva was an amateur photographer who met FIDE Master Asa Hoffmann at a chess tournament around 30 years ago. She has supported him for years allowing him to devote almost his full time to chess. Of Russian origin, Eva sometimes appeared in gangster flims playing bit parts as a Mafia Moll or the mother of a Mafia Don. Sam Sloan

The line is "son of two Park Avenue lawyers". I asked Asa about it and he told me that it is true. Both his mother and his father were Park Avenue lawyers but his mother died at an early age. Asa has no advanced degree that I know of and has always been a chess bum. He cannot make much of a living playing chess for money in the park. He is 64 now. Sam Sloan

I thought Asa came from a wealthy family and even had a degree in a white-collar profession that he could use. Besides, he's good enough at chess not to need much help. -- Ray Gordon, The ORIGINAL Lifestyle Seduction Guru http://www.cybersheet.com/library.html Includes 29 Reasons Not To Be A Nice Guy Ray's new "Project 5000" is here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/project-5000 Don't rely on overexposed, mass-keted commercial seduction methods which no longer work.
