Subject: Full Posting by Paul Truong dated April 10, 2007
In My Motion for Summary Judgment I quoted two paragraphs from a
posting by Paul Truong about how great he is. I think that readers
here would like to see the full posting, especially the part about how
he has millions to invest, he has a close connection with the (now
disgraced) Secretary of the Treasury Henry Paulson and has ins with
the chairmen of Fortune 500 Companies plus mayors, governors and so
on.

Who would have known that he was virtually bankrupt, had no job, no
income, and was living off the child support check that his wife
receives from her ex-husband?

Here is the full posting, dated April 10, 2007:

1. I don't check this forum often anymore. I have stated that before.
Obviously Mr. Lafferty likes to ignore these little details.

2. I am very busy. I have been in Washington DC in the last few days
meeting various officials. Will have a meeting with the Chief of Staff
of the US Treasury Department Jim Wilkinson and Treasury Secretary
Henry Paulson tomorrow at the US Department of Treasury. They are
throwing an event for GM Polgar and me tomorrow at their location. We
will discuss the benefits of chess and education and how chess can
build leaders. If you read GM Polgar's blog (http://
www.susanpolgar.blogspot.com) which is read by chess players and media
in over 85 countries, you would know that. There will be around 20-25
people in this event.

3. As to the resume originally posted by Mr. Sloan, someone
conveniently made changes. What was posted was not authentic. Another
word, don't count on the authenticity of the resume, especially
knowing who originally posted it illegally. I do not know who made
these changes and why. It was not me. I have also stated that before.

I was never employed by the USCF. I was also never interviewed for any
position. I was asked by 3-4 board members to be the ED after Frank
Niro resigned. I said no but would help with Marketing and PR on only
1 condition. The condition was the board had to approve 7-0 or else I
would not do it. I know members of that board hated each other and I
wanted to help unite that group. Therefore, to say that I needed a
resume for to help the USCF is quite ridiculous, especially when it
was a volunteer post and I have never applied for any position with
the USCF.

4. The parts that were not changed are absolutely correct.

5. I had nothing to do with any negotiation between Games Parlor and
the USCF. I was just a stockholder and I bought stocks in GP a year or
so after they server was launched. I also had nothing to do with any
negotiation between ICC, World Chess Network and the USCF. I did have
many negotiation sessions to buy Games Parlor and I did entertain the
idea of buying ICC. At the end, I was happy that I did not. It would
have taken up too much of my time to run it day to day.

6. Mr. Bogner does not have any business relationship with me other
than asking me to invest millions into a business venture that he
proposed to buy ICC. Up to that point, I had no idea who Mr. Bogner
was but he managed to find me. He first called me after I tied for 1st
at the 2001 US Open Blitz in Framingham with GM Roland Schmaltz. I
politely turned him down. I basically said that if I decided to buy
ICC, I would do it myself and run it. Why would I give him a few
millions to do it? I am in business long enough to know what would or
would not work for me. It was not personal with Mr. Bogner because I
did not know much about him. I still do not know him that well.

I also advised GM Polgar not to enter into any business deal with Mr.
Bogner as his proposal at that time was not in her best interest. I
have no idea if his potential future proposals will be in her best
interest or not. This is what a business manager does. I advise my
clients. She agreed with my decision and said no as well. He was not
pleased with my decisions. I do not know why. Other than our very very
very few meetings, Mr. Bogner knows nothing about me other than a
casual hello in tournament hallways and I know nothing about him. As
claimed by one of the current board members, he knows everyone but few
know him. To say that Mr. Bogner knows me is dubious at best.

7. As to what I can do in Marketing and PR in chess? I run all
Marketing, PR, Promotional events for the Susan Polgar Foundation and
I also do the same for GM Polgar and various major chess events. No, I
do not get paid. I also advise and help a number of top players on
various issues. I do not name names unless I have their consents.
Again, I do not get paid for this.

As stated before, I came to America (to Northern NJ, Bergen Country)
at the age of 14 as a boat person from South Vietnam. I did not speak
any English at that time. I went to HS and College between Jan 1980 to
May 1987. I was a USCF master in 1980 and I basically walked away from
the game in the mid 80's. My last serious tournament was the 1986 NY
Open.

I started my professional career in June 1987 and I retired sometimes
in 2001. Now I do things for chess because I love this game and what I
can do, no one else can. It is not because I am smarter but because I
have the experience in these fields and I know chess.

What was my specialty in business? I saved companies or turned around
companies. Companies sometimes have divisions, subsidiaries, products,
business or projects that are not working. They hire me to come in to
analyze the situation to pinpoint the problems and come up with
effective solutions. Then they have 2 choices: Get someone who can fix
the problems or ask me to do it. The companies that I dealt with were
all multibillion dollars companies. I was quite good in what I did and
I have to say that it is because of chess. That is why I am working so
hard right now to promote the benefits of chess and education.

8. No, I am not competing with anyone in this upcoming USCF election.
I know my abilities and what I can do to help the USCF. It is up to
the USCF members to decide if they want me to help. It would not
change my personal life one way or another. I do not dislike any of
the candidates on a personal level. I do feel that a certain
individual should not be serving on the board.

9. As to Texas Tech, yes, I met with the President, Provost, Senior
Vice Provost and a number of Deans. Yes, there will be many mutual
projects. No, I cannot discuss any of them now. I gave Texas Tech my
word that the official announcement will be made by them nationally
and internationally. Yes, it will be the biggest project in chess
history relating to this specific area. No, it is not an exaggeration.
But again, the official announcements will be made by them soon
enough. Timing is everything in business.

10. No, I am not shy with answers. But if questions are asked for
political reasons, no thanks. I have better things to do with my life.
I have the same email for more than a decade. If people truly want to
know something, they can email me.

Please understand that I meet tens and thousands of chess people every
year and I do talk to them and answering their questions. I seldom
meet rude chess people in real life. But my head does spin reading
some of the posts here. That is why I stopped reading it.

I work 7 days a week from about 5-6 AM strictly for chess. Why do I do
it? Because I like chess and I see what I do help this game in
positive ways. No, I do not like chess politics or politics of any
kind, especially when it involves a lot of petty and destructive
behaviors.

I think I told Chris Falter once before about this issue. I will not
discuss the details of any single issue (including resume) unless all
10 candidates will do the same thing. There should be an equal
standard for all. I have nothing to hide but I do not want to lose the
people I know and the contacts I have. Do I trust that some people
will not maliciously and purposely try to harm my professional
reputation? Absolutely not! So far, all I see is a few people trying
to personally attack a few candidates who are strong threats to the
people they support. Let=92s not play games here. We all know who these
people are as well as their motives.

For an example, I was on a special VIP tour yesterday at the Bureau of
Engraving and Printing in Washington DC where US money is being
printed 24/7. I was able to see every single step of how things are
done. It is like walking in Fort Knox with the security that they
have.

I was standing and walking next to a lot of $$$$$$$$$$$$$. This was
arranged by the Chief of Staff of the Department of Treasury. I had
special security clearance from some of the highest authority. I have
the same trust from some of the Fortune 500, 100 and 50 Executives as
well as Governors, Mayors, etc. I have never in my life asked for
personal favors and I have never disrespected or acted
unprofessionally with any of them.

Why would I want to jeopardize what I have due to conducts of a few
people when these top level contacts can help chess? As I mentioned
repeatedly, please feel free to vote or not vote for me. It is not
personal.

All I ask is don't hurt this game for political reasons. I agree with
GM Polgar that there are 8 qualified candidates in this election. I
would not be disappointed if you vote for any of the 8. Each of these
8 people can help the USCF in their own ways.

What do I want to do with the USCF if I am elected? Simple! I would
like to help make this federation more productive, efficient,
professional, respected, financially sound and stable. I would also
like to add the Marketing, PR and Promotional aspects to the USCF. I
am interested in raising the memberships in adult, scholastic,
collegiate, correspondence, and military chess as well as adding an
internet chess component by doing co-promotional projects with ICC,
FICS, WCN, PlayChess, etc.

Thanks for reading. I now have to prepare for my important meetings
today. I have been up since 4:30 AM and I went to bed at 1:30 AM. Hope
I answered some of your questions. If you have further questions,
please email me.
It is time for united board working together for the common good of US
Chess and the USCF.

Sam Sloan quotes all paragraphs, not two of them, so which does he say say
that which is contentious to him? What actually is contentious? When was the
original statement made? Finally, what does the real Sloan's own
characterization have to do with what follows?

As with his twice reported 'page 105' missive from Jennifer Shahade's book,
nothing there relates to any evident conclusion Sam Sloan makes of it. What
do even more McCarthite accusations mean, therefore?

<note: 10 years of this stuff - and long before either Slaon or Polgar got
anywhere near USCF - is a lot of context! >

In short, less spin, more factual matter from the Sloan if anyone at all
should take him seriously.

This is offer #1000 to someone /compelled/ to spin, and who still thinks
that his commentary is received unspun! What a farce, when the same person
is conflated with his satirist who at least achieved correctly the evident
egoic bombast of the original poster.

It ain't clear that Sam Sloan can write unsophisticated material - or that
for the last 10 years he has not concocted some merry collation of strange
contexts and very evident personal bias and obsessions and envy, to inform
his posts.

You are quick to point out other peoples self aggrandizements. For example,
here you quote this Truong guy and you all last week droned on interminably
about Susan Polgar's web claims as to chess championships.

Would you care to comment on this claim you made regarding your own chess
championship?

"I [Sam Sloan] was selected to be the author because I had just won the
World Championship of Chinese Chess for Non-Chinese."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Sam_Sloan

This "World Championship of Chinese Chess for Non-Chinese" that you're
bragging about here, is it more or less prestigious than the multiple world
women's championships that grandmaster Polgar has won?

On that same page you state that

"I [Sam Sloan] recently defeated Bill Brock, a rated expert and former
master, in a chess match with a $1000 stake. Thus, it is generally accepted
as correct to refer to me as a chess master."

Is it true that players are awarded master and grandmaster status based upon
beating this Brock guy? What if he gets sick or summat? Do the rankings get
frozen in time, or is there another former master you have to beat once?
Reason I'm asking is I once beat a guy called Bill Becker in chess, does
that make me a grandmaster like you? Because he was pretty good.
