Russian police have detained opposition leader and former world chess
champion Garry Kasparov and other critics of President Putin at a
rally in Moscow organised by Mr Kasparov's Other Russia coalition.
About 3,000 protesters attended, including for the first time the
leader of one of the mainstream liberal parties - a sign that the
movement is growing.

What a waste! GK is going to take a "dirt nap" soon. he should stick to
chess and just hang in there even though he has gotten disgusted with the
system which he helped make worse which he has admitted.

I am NOT making a threat to GK but his constant ruffling of the russian
political system is going to make his life on this Earth short indeed.

What a GD waste of talent!

Kasparov is a brave man, and he is doing truly
a magnificient job. It is very depressing that
after the fall of communism, with all the great
hopes, the situation in Russia has reverted
toward dictatorship. Some other major opposition
parties are3 joining, step by step his universal
umbrella movement, which is a good exercise in
democracy at the opposition level.

The democracy, be it Russia or Iraque or any country,
should start with the local self-governing. But this
is very hard to achieve in a huge country like Russia,
which does not have much of the tradition. Instead,
they had three hundred years of a brutal Mongol
occupation with its "human life is nothing" rule,
followed by tsarism and communism. Brrrr... Perhaps
one should focus on one region at the time, to establish
there democratic ways. After one-two successes other
regions would be likely to follow. That was something
relatively easy to achieve in Iraq (to have oases'-islands
of democracy first; even the most democratic election
in a non-democratic country is only going to produce
corruption, etc.) but it seems very difficult in Russia.

So, Kasparov has a hopelessly difficult task on his hands,
while his actions are very much needed.

KASPAROV:
I mean, if I went around saying I was an emperor just because Boris
Yeltsin had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!
PUTIN:
Shut up, will you? Shut up!
KASPAROV:
Ah, now we see the violence inherent in the system.
PUTIN:
Shut up!
KASPAROV:
Oh! Come and see the violence inherent in the system! Help! Help! I'm
being repressed!
PUTIN:
Bloody peasant!
KASPAROV:
Oh, what a give-away. Did you hear that? Did you hear that, eh? That's
what I'm on about. Did you see him repressing me? You saw it, didn't
you?

You knew this was going to happen , the dictator Putin has told the
people who the new dictator will be so they better get used to it.
Putin will put his puppet in power so Putin will still control stuff
behind the scenes..
