I'm not sure if it was the laughing (from who? I can't tell) or just
everything that got to Krush. In any case they must abandon this
stupid way to break ties. If necessary, rent a room and send the
players and arbiters and a couple witnesses into it and have as many
non-blitz games as is needed to break the tie. Make other arrangements
as needed--postpone--whatever. Not this stupid blitz crap though.

It was Krush's reactyion to
someone laughing.

The truly guilty party were the organizers.

When the score of the two (or more)
winners is equal then either they should
be co-champions or they should play a real
playoff match. To decide the classical
championship by blitz was an idiotic
idea. I can understand Krush in this
situation.

That seems to be the common sentiment.

I remember Kasparov saying that he doesn't play much blitz on-line because
he was 'not good with mouse.'

In this instance, it was not just the speed of play, but that as I
understand it, Krush already played out a 100 move game at regular time
control earlier, and that playoff game either started or ended [I'm not
sure] on the same day, 9 hours later.

Yes, the consensus seems to be as Wlod says they should have been
granted a proper playoff. It's a bit of the greater of two evils in this
instance, you do need the organisers but they've messed up badly this
time. Maybe they had to vacate the premises on the dot or something..

nobody..

I think it is a disgrace that a US champion is decided in this way.

me too. the u-tube material looked like a pinball championship - krush was
obviously distressed that it should all be reduced to clock smacking, and
had played a 100 move game earlier that day - i think the final round took
place 9 hours later

the disgrace is not the player, but the format.

On my computer, the action was too fast to
tell exactly what was going on... or who it was
that kept knocking pieces over and hitting the
clock (illegally) before replacing them.

I would prefer a top view of the board, and
slow-motion replay, so I can see the board
position. What I did notice is that one of the
two players kept reaching across the board
and pulling up her sleeve -- very distracting,
although I bet it detracted from her own
concentration as well as her opponent's --
*after* making each move.

Decades ago, I knew a player whose whole
modus operandi centered on such ploys...
deliberately knocking men over and then
fiddling with setting them back up which his
opponent's clock was running (how generous
of him). He was every bit as quick as these
two /appeared to be/ in my browser, with the
GetClub program hogging my CPU!
