It has been announced on the Internet this morning that Susan Polgar
is resigning all her positions in chess and moving back to Hungary.

http://www.chessville.com/misc/PolgarQuits.htm

That would end the need for a recall.

The problem is that today is April Fools Day. We will have to wait
until tomorrow to find out whether this seemingly good news (good for
us, bad for the Hungarians) is a joke or not.
Sevan, look at C05 in the FIDE handbook. It appears
the fees to transfer from one federation to another are quite steep,
up to 3200 Euros for a GM. (Jerry Nash tells me it can be even higher
if the application is a last-minute one, there can be a 50% surcharge
for a late application.)
So, if Susan Polgar wants to switch her federation from the USA back
to Hungary, she would have to pay 3200 Euros.

Is that correct?

Who would pay that, the USA or Hungary?

The player. (Though of course the national federation might offer to
pay it if they really wanted the player.)

Turns out that it was an April Fools Joke, as I suspected, and as
Susan revealed this morning at:

http://susanpolgar.blogspot.com/2008/04/april-2.html

The tip off to me was that it was posted on her blog at 1:41 AM, just
after midnight on April Fools Day, and the new name, which was to be
M. I. C. E.

While explaining that it was an April Fools Joke, Susan adds,
"However, there were some important facts in the article which will be
officially announced soon".

We are waiting to see what those "important facts" are.

My impression of the article:

on a scale from 0 to 10: whole ten points
for the effort, and zero points for the humor.

It is posted on Susan Polgar's Official Blog too, so it does not seem
that it would be a hoax.

http://susanpolgar.blogspot.com/2008/04/im-moving-back-to-hungary.html

However, I still find it to be highly likely that this is an April
Fools Day joke.

We will find out tomorrow for sure.

As I've written earlier, there is none.
The humor value of this "joke" is exactly
ZERO.

Good point. What do other Hungarians feel about the fact that the
announcement by Zsuzsa Polgar that she was moving back to Hungary
turned out to be an April Fools Day Joke?

I am not a chess fan. The common people don't know what is the
difference between the Polgar girls, and which one lives where. Simply I am
at a loss to understand the humour.

I still dont understand what is the funny thing in that "joke". Hungary has
many emigrants, and some of them are resettling back to here. Some of them
are greater genious than Susan. Do you think, if somebody leave the US, it
must be a fool's day joke?

Well, the announcement is still up at Chessville, *_and_* on

Given the self-extinguishing of Paul's divine light, the
above hoax is in the worst taste conceivable. Whoever is
responsible should think of the effect of such lies on the
children involved, should they have the misfortune to
later read them. Stop. Leave those concerned to deal with
their grief.
I appeal to Mr Sloan (this is my personal appeal it has no

I just happened to notice this when looking through some old postings.

Why are you appealing to Mr. Sloan (me) when it was actually Phil
Innes on chessville.com and Susan Polgar on susanpolgar.blogspot.com
who announced that she was resigning and moving back to Hungary?

I see now the comment "This is the first I have heard of this" was
made by Rob Mitchell, not by Phil Innes, so I withdraw my question
above. Still, some definite clarification would be welcome.

This is the first you have heard of this?? Phil, the page has your

April 1, 2008

Are you saying someone has impersonated you, forged your name? And

I linked to the site from the link Sloan posted and it referred back
to that page. Yeah. It is April 1st. My kids have burned me already.
But I had heard "something" earlier was going to happen. If it is a
joke , then they got me too. I am trying to verify.

No. It does not mention film crew. Did you think that you were going
to be on the film crew?

Is that what this is all about, your defense of Polgar and Truong and
attacks on everybody else?

You certainly are naive if you think that you are part of the Polgar
"team".

going on. I knew something was up. I have not read the post yet. Does

Rob

$23 million isn't big budget these days, but a fair share could set you up,
especially if the back-of-it project was a 12-week serial on HBO.

Anyway, I can't report off-topic subjects from the interview more than is
admitted as public interview, but really! People should wake up a bit - is
everyone really dulled to sleep here?

You reply to a post containing a link and rather than read the link,
you ask for a newsgroup response about what the linked article says?
And the article is on Phil's site? Rob, this indeed smacks of April
the First.
