Kamsky won and Carlsen drew easily in a rook and pawn endgame. Carlsen
even stood somewhat better at the end.

So it's Carlsen 1.5 Cheparinov 0.5.

I guess its a knock out - remaining players are below... round 3 latest

you guy's doing good! i have to go with adams since he will reply to my
interview questions in a better mood if he keeps winning :))

look like kamsky is last us hope still standing, Onishuk was knocked out -
this Chinese guy Wang Yue was unfortunate to draw fellow chinese player Bu -
but I haven't really noticed his play before, and he seems to be surviving
this level of competiton, beating a 3640 player in the first round, and now
Bu who is 2690.

Why not night on F-4 x E-6 pawn and his Knight forks his queen and rook
...will play the rest of this out and maybe you can post the rest of
the game...He must have a longer term strategy ..Gata's move pins the
knight in front of the queen....

Just played the Gata game and i am not a good enough player to know if
he should have taken that piece or not ...I can see why he left it
because if he takes it then queen takes pawn and his queen is free ...He
still got the queen out anyway ....I thought that was a good game.

If i was playing i am not sure i would have taken it ..If his queen was
not protecting it then i would have to put pressure on him to stop the
pawn ...

By the way i am still having problems figuring out the rules , is it the
best two out of three or best 3 out of 5 games ?

Cheparinov BUL - Carlsen NOR

Hard to guess who will win in these games, petersburgers Alekseev and
Karjakin will be interesting, young Karjakin is 'the prospect'

Kamsky gets to play Pono who had a relatively easy 4th round, though his
confidence will be high after beating Svidler, they extra two games might
count a bit

Maybe age will be a factot in the Cheparinov Calsen game? although its only
round 5, some of these players have put in more than a dozen games to get
here.

Both Karjakin and Carlsen are 17 years old.

The players were listed in order of their ELO-ranking as of October.
Initially there were 128 players and in the first round no 1 seed played
no 128 seed, no 2 played no 127 and so on.

In each round there are 2 games with "classic" time control on two
consecutive days followed by a rapid and/or blitz tie breaker on the
third day if necessary. Winner of these mini-matches will goes to next
round.

Obviously there is some advantage of a "rest" day if one avoids to play
the tie break. The only official free day will be the day before the
final starts.

In the final there will be 4 games with "classical" time control
followed again by a tie break on the fifth day.
